11-06-09 Call for abstracts
AAAS and the student organizing committee for the 10th Annual Conference of Science & Technology in Society are pleased to join forces with National Academies' Annual Forum for Graduate Students in Science, Technology, and Health Policy. The newly merged conference has been extended to 2 1/2 days, and will continue to provide a professional and interactive venue for all graduate students from Science & Technology Policy (STP), Science & Technology Studies (STS), and related fields including, but not limited to, health, energy and environment, space, information and communications, innovation, education, and ethical, legal and social implications of science and technology. Every year, prominent figures from both STP and STS deliver keynote addresses. In addition to presenting papers and receiving constructive feedback on their research, students will have the opportunity to build national and international networks with each other and prominent scholars and professionals. As an added benefit to attendees and participants, a portion of the conference will be dedicated to career development, with representatives of government and non-government employers. 10-29-09 ECI Senior Research Fellow in Environmental Governance. The Environmental Change Insitute (ECI) is looking for a high calibre candidate to work at the forefront of emerging research. This exciting new opportunity will take forward ECI’s research vision and strategy in the area of Environmental Governance. The Fellow will address formal and informal institutions and organisations across the public, private and non-governmental sectors, and research the links between environmental governance and other forms of governance (corporate, state and community). Topics covered might include the development of novel methods and instruments to understand environmental governance as it relates to climate change, land degradation and deforestation. You will work with ECI senior staff on the development and implementation of innovative, cross-cutting and interdisciplinary research and teaching. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (or exceptionally an MSc and appropriate work experience) and at least five years postdoctoral research experience. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan invites applications from well-qualified individuals for a tenure-track assistant professor position in public policy.  The position will have a university year appointment. Successful candidates must demonstrate outstanding research potential; willingness to teach core and
applied undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. level courses in an interdisciplinary public policy program; ability to mentor Masters and Ph.D. students; and interest in interacting with students, faculty, and policy practitioners in an interdisciplinary professional school environment. 10-19-09 AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellows Program now available on line. Learn more and download an application at: http://www.aaas.org/programs/education/MassMedia/ The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellowship seeks to increase communication skills in student scientists. From grant writing to interaction with their community, today*s young scientists must also be able science communicators. The lessons they learn through the Fellowship experience will benefit their career path and help them increase public understanding of science and technology. The Fellowship places senior undergraduate and graduate science, engineering and mathematics students at media sites nationwide to work as science reporters for ten weeks. Past sites include the Chicago Tribune, NPR and Scientific American. By exposing reporters and editors to the expertise of student scientists, while also training those same students in the nuances of journalism, the program can improve the quality of information that is disseminated.  AAAS selects 15 - 20 Fellows each summer. 9-23-09 Maryland Energy Administration - Energy Efficiency Program Manager

The Energy Efficiency Program Manager works under the direction of the Director of Energy Efficiency to develop and implement energy efficiency programs across all sectors. Provides technical review of energy efficiency programs developed by Maryland utilities under the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act of 2008. Develops energy efficiency programs and plans for implementation under the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative – Maryland Strategic Energy Investment Program and stimulus funding. Manages energy efficiency implementation contractors in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. Coordinates a wide range of energy efficiency education programs on subjects including energy codes, tax incentives and ENERGY STAR products and homes. Develops outside funding sources for energy efficiency programs from federal, state or private sources. Reviews energy efficiency legislation during the annual legislative session. Assists in the implementation of other Energy Efficiency Division programs as needed. Qualifications: Candidates should have a bachelor’s and preferably a master’s degree in an energy or environmental field. Candidates must have at least two years of experience working on energy issues related to the items listed in the responsibilities section (above). 9-12-09 Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources Renewable Energy Program Coordinator

9-10-09 Graduate Fellowship Program of the National Academies
This fellowship, consisting of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council, is designed to engage its Fellows in the analytical process that informs U.S. science and technology policy. Fellows develop basic skills essential to working or participating in science policy at the federal, state, or local levels.  Eligibility: Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars and those who have completed graduate studies or postdoctoral research in any social/behavioral science, medical/health discipline, physical or biological science, any field of engineering, law/business/public administration or any relevant interdisciplinary field within the last five years are eligible to apply.  The program takes place in Washington, D.C. and is open to all U.S. and non-U.S. citizens who meet the criteria. The job is an intermediate-level analyst position providing primary support to international renewable energy and energy efficiency programs in the Strategic Energy Analysis Center of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
