Chevron Chair in Energy Efficiency and Director Search Launched

Chevron 1In January, 2009,  at a ceremony held in Sacramento, California, UC Davis formally recognized Chevron Corporation for the $2.5 million endowment to the UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center to establish the Chevron Energy Efficiency Chair.  This endowment has allowed the EEC to launch a national search for a permanent director whose focus will be on enhancing and increasing the research, education, commercialization and outreach programs of the Center.

Applications for the Director position are now being accepted online.

At the announcement ceremony, Larry Vanderhoef, UC Davis’ Chancellor, thanked Chevron for their significant contribution acknowledging that the "endowment will ensure long-term strategic leadership for the Energy Efficiency Center by bridging long-term research with real-world applications.”

Chevron Corporation became a Leadership Sponsor of the EEC in 2007, providing an initial $500,000 donation and appointing ChJohn McDonald, Chevron Corpevron Vice President, John McDonald, to serve as a member of the EEC Board of Advisors.  At the announcement ceremony, Mr. McDonald acknowledged the donation, noting that “advancing energy efficiency --which is the cheapest, cleanest and most abundant form of new energy-- is critical to the challenge of meeting the world’s growing energy needs."  "California," he noted, "has been a pacesetter in energy efficiency, so it’s fitting that one of the state’s leading universities and California’s largest company should partner on the next generation of energy efficiency.”

In May, 2009, Jim Davis, President of Chevron Energy Solutions (a division of Chevron Corporation and a leading energy services firm in the nation; the first services company in the oil and gas industry) replaced Mr. McDonald as EEC Board Member.
