Center Convenes Experts on Technology Innovation and Marketing Challenges - Feb, 2008
With generous support from the California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF) and a grant from UC Discovery (Industry-University Cooperative Research Program), on February 13, 2008 the Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) in collaboration with the Center for Entrepreneurship (C4E) brought together California's foremost leaders in energy efficiency. Sixty individuals --representing all of California's major utilities and representatives from the ener
gy service industry, large end-users, manufacturers, large builders, and investment firms, as well as CEO's of funded technology ventures, and regulators and policymakers from California's lead energy policy (California Clean Energy Fun) and regulatory agencies (California Energy Commission, California Public Utility Commission, California Air Resources Board)-- participated in a candid dialogue about the challenges and opportunities for accelerating market impact of distributed energy technologies. Three panels were convened, the Customer Panel, which explored the obstacles challenging the procurement of new energy efficiency and peak load reduction technologies at preferable scale and quality (Moderator: Mark Modera, Western Cooling Efficiency Center); Technology Developer Panel, which explored the barriers to bringing new technologies into the market and to scaling up in order to achieve reasonable returns (Moderator: Dan Adler, CalCEF); and the Policymaker Panel, which explored existing and proposed policies that address obstacles in the way of market impact (Moderator: Steven Schiller, Energy Efficiency Center, Visiting Scientist).
