The mission of the Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) at the University of California, Davis is to accelerate the development and commercialization of energy-efficient technologies into the market, and to educate future leaders in energy efficiency. The EEC was established in 2006 with a challenge grant from the California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF). The EEC has strong partnerships with all of the major California utilities, the private sector, and government agencies at both the state and federal levels. It organizes its research along three tracks: Agriculture and Food Processing, Buildings and Transportation, and works closely with existing UC Davis centers and departments campus-wide, including the California Lighting Technology Center, Center for Entrepreneurship, Institute of Transportation Studies-Davis, Energy Institute, and the Western Cooling Efficiency Center.

Chevron Corporation is a California-based company that explores for, produces and transports crude oil and natural gas; refines, markets and distributes transportation fuels and other energy products and services; manufactures and sells petrochemical products; generates power; and develops and commercializes the energy resources of the future, including geothermal, biofuels and other renewables. Chevron Energy Solutions, a subsidiary, develops and constructs energy efficiency and renewable power projects for institutions and businesses. In 2006, Chevron formed a strategic research collaboration with UC Davis to pursue advanced technology aimed at converting cellulosic biomass into transportation fuels. They joined the EEC as a Leadership Sponsor in 2008 and Jim Davis, President of Chevron Energy Solutions serves on the EEC Board of Advisers.
